Knot Candle Holder and the Lovers Chair by Anuka Tavartkiladze

The Knot Collection, designed by Tbilisi-based Anuka Tavartkiladze, explores minimalism through sculptural form. Each object is built around the motif of an impossible knot rendered in solid material, emphasizing concepts of structural tension, connection, and technical precision. The collection reinterprets a familiar visual element into functional objects with architectural clarity. The series features the Lovers Chair, a steel bench that shapes two curved, mirroring seats, and the Candle Holder, with a large sphere floor base, both integrating the sculptural and intimate element of a knot into their design.

Knot creates Formal Disruption in Functional Steel Objects

Constructed from steel, the Candle Holder features a vertical stem set into a spherical base. Designer Anuka Tavartkiladze introduces a knot at the midpoint, creating a moment of visual and structural disruption within an otherwise linear profile. The holder is designed to support a single taper candle, maintaining vertical symmetry and emphasizing spatial restraint. The composition balances material mass with visual lightness, functioning as both utilitarian object and formal study.

The Love Chair is a bench that integrates seating and sculpture through a geometric configuration. Two symmetrically curved seats form a mirrored layout, connected by five slender vertical supports. A continuous backrest arches across the rear span, with a central knot element positioned at the midpoint. This metal detail introduces an intentional deviation in the form, suggesting material tension and continuity. The bench operates within principles of repetition, proportion, and structural clarity, with applications in gallery settings, quiet architectural interiors, or contexts prioritizing spatial restraint and conceptual clarity.
